“Sue Her”: Kigame Raises Fresh Claims Against Nyamu, Urges Senator Cherargei to Take Legal Action Over Senate Remarks

Pressure continues to mount on nominated Senator Karen Nyamu after politician and gospel artiste Rueben Kigame called for her resignation, citing what he described as a second serious concern arising from her controversial Senate remarks.

Nyamu has been facing criticism following comments she made in the Senate about a Grade 10 student who had visited Parliament under a school programme.

The remarks were widely condemned as inappropriate and demeaning, drawing sharp reactions from leaders and members of the public.

Kigame now says the focus should not only be on the student but also on what he termed as damaging insinuations directed at fellow Senator Samson Cherargei.

In his statement, Kigame argued that Nyamu’s remarks suggested that Cherargei had improper intentions toward the minor.

“We are fixated on the demeaning of the young student as the reason why Karen Nyamu must resign, but there is a second reason,” Kigame said.

“She publicly insinuated that a fellow Senator had illicit motives, including innuendos of lusting after the young girl. This is not permissible in public service.”

He called on Cherargei to consider legal action, stating that the remarks amounted to character assassination.

According to Kigame, such statements risk damaging reputations and lowering public confidence in leadership.

The development adds a new layer to the controversy that has dominated public discourse in recent days.

Critics have maintained that Nyamu’s conduct fell short of the standards expected of elected and nominated leaders, particularly in a formal parliamentary setting.

Nyamu has since issued an apology following pressure from fellow senators and the public.

However, the apology has received mixed reactions, with some leaders questioning its sincerity and whether it adequately addressed the concerns raised.

The incident has renewed calls for accountability and discipline within Parliament, with stakeholders urging leaders to exercise caution when addressing sensitive matters, especially those involving minors.
