Siaya Governor and seasoned lawyer James Orengo has confirmed that he is now representing Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in the aftermath of a violent attack in Kisumu, vowing to pursue full legal accountability for those involved.

Orengo said he has taken up the role of lead counsel in what he described as a matter that goes beyond a personal assault, framing it as a test of justice and the rule of law.

The move places one of Kenya’s most experienced constitutional lawyers at the centre of a politically sensitive investigation that has drawn national attention.

In a statement shared after accompanying the senator to the Bunge Police Station in Nairobi, Orengo said legal proceedings had officially commenced with the recording of Osotsi’s formal statement.

He was joined by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in what he termed a coordinated legal and political push for justice.

“I have taken the role of lead counsel for my colleague, Linda Mwananchi Principal Sen. Godfrey Osotsi, regarding the recent assault in Kisumu. Today, we joined him at the Bunge Police Station in Nairobi to formally document his statement.

Alongside my learned friends Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, we are dedicated to pursuing full accountability for both the attackers and their sponsors. Justice will not be deterred by violence,” Orengo said.

The development comes days after Osotsi detailed a disturbing attack in Kisumu in which he alleged he was assaulted by a group of young men while seated at a public venue.

According to his account, the group initially appeared non-threatening but quickly turned hostile, questioning his political stance before attacking him.

Osotsi said the situation escalated rapidly, leaving him overwhelmed and briefly unconscious. He further alleged that the attackers acted in a coordinated manner, suggesting possible planning behind the incident.

His security personnel later intervened, forcing the assailants to flee the scene.

The senator was later evacuated and taken for medical attention after sustaining injuries. He has since called for a thorough investigation, urging authorities to treat the matter as a serious security incident rather than speculation-driven commentary circulating online.

Orengo’s decision to take up the case adds a legal heavyweight to the unfolding investigation, signalling a potentially high-profile courtroom battle if suspects are identified and charged.
