As the nation mourns the passing of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ngeno, tributes from those closest to him paint a portrait of a leader whose impact extended far beyond politics.

His personal assistant, Guruh Bavati, took to social media to share an intimate account of his experience working with Ngeno, revealing a leader committed to mentorship, integrity, and the growth of those around him.

“In this life, I have served many leaders—at both local and national levels. But I have never encountered someone like Johana Ngeno,” Guruh wrote.

described Ngeno as a leader who treated every staff member like family, focusing on potential rather than professional background.

Whether on payroll or on contract, Ngeno is said to have mentored his staff, equipping them with knowledge and opportunities to perform beyond expectations.

Guruh recounted how Ngeno personally followed his work and sought him out through social media and mutual friends, including Generali Katam and Rose Kositany.

“When we finally met, we agreed to walk a journey together,” Guruh said, highlighting the MP’s emphasis on ethical leadership. Ngeno reportedly advised him, “We are working on the future, not the present. As you build my name on and off social media, never insult others to favor me.”

After the 2022 gubernatorial loss by Isaac Rutto, Guruh said Ngeno lifted him from a period of uncertainty, introducing him to influential networks and even facilitating access to spaces where only top officials could enter, including encounters with the President.

“Many leaders would never allow their staff such opportunities,” Guruh noted.

The personal assistant also recalled Ngeno’s zest for life. He would delight in watching videos of himself engaging with the public, often dancing during community events.

“In this world, be happy. We only live once, and we do not know where we are going,” Ngeno would say. Now, those moments remain memories as Guruh records video clips not for Ngeno, but for posterity.

Guruh concluded his tribute with heartfelt sorrow: “A man who appeared from nowhere chose you—no connections, no bridges—just him and you. I have so many good things to say about Johana Kipyegon Ngeno. Rest in peace, CHUMINDET.”
