A recently divorced woman has shared her experience of handing over custody of her three-year-old son to her ex-husband, describing the decision as a personal liberation.
In an anonymous post on the Facebook page I Regret Having Children, she revealed that her ex-husband’s attempt to gain full custody unexpectedly gave her the freedom she had longed for.
“I gave my son up to my ex-husband and I am FREE,” the mother wrote. Initially, she admitted, her instinct was to fight the custody move, suspecting that her ex-husband’s motive was to hurt her.
Over time, however, she realized that the decision was a relief.
Her post painted a vivid picture of the challenges she faced while raising her young son. According to her, he was “a total nightmare,” constantly disobedient and aggressive.
“My son’s favourite words are ‘no’ and ‘shut up,’” she wrote, adding that he often spat, bit, and resisted basic care like diaper changes.
She claimed her ex-husband had prevented her from disciplining him, insisting he was too young, which exacerbated the behavior.
The mother described the child’s energy as relentless, saying he was expelled from kindergarten for misbehavior and frequently disrupted their home life.
She admitted to having to “blackmail him with candy and chocolate” just to manage daily tasks. Her cat, she added, was also a target of her son’s aggression.
With full custody now granted to her ex-husband, the mother said she feels a newfound peace.
“I’ll see him when he is older and can control his emotions. I miss my old life of peace. There is no peace with my son,” she wrote.
She also revealed plans to travel to Mexico and Brazil, taking advantage of her remote work to enjoy quiet and independence for the first time in years.
She was unapologetic about her decision, noting that she did not care if others judged her as a “bad mother.” For her, the priority is mental health and reclaiming personal space after years of exhaustion.
Her post has sparked discussion online, with some readers expressing empathy for her struggles, while others debated the ethics of parents giving up custody due to behavioral challenges.
Regardless, her story highlights the intense pressures some parents face and the complex realities of parenthood.
