Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stirred fresh speculation about the circumstances surrounding the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying he needs time before he speaks fully because “I know a lot.”

The remarks came during a televised interview on KTN News on Monday night, February 24, where Owino hinted at deeper context to Odinga’s passing that he has not yet shared publicly.

In the interview, Owino said he was a close campaign ally of Odinga, claiming he campaigned with the late Baba in as many as 280 to 290 constituencies and describing himself as “Baba’s boy.”

He noted they met “three weeks before Baba passed on” prior to Odinga’s final trip abroad, adding that when people “see Babu, he knows a lot.”

Those comments have been interpreted by some political analysts as implying that Owino has insights into the events leading up to the veteran leader’s death.

Owino has been a vocal critic of how Odinga’s party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), managed the transition after the late leader’s passing in October 2025.

He has accused some party leaders of sidelining proper procedures in leadership succession and has openly questioned the rushed installation of a successor without a fully procedurally constituted party process.

His remarks come amid wider debate within Kenyan political circles over the handling of Odinga’s death, with some senior figures previously calling for transparency.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has backed calls for a public inquest into the circumstances of Odinga’s death, referencing comments from Siaya Governor James Orengo, who described the passing as “a mystery” and suggested that uncertainty remains over whether Odinga died of natural causes.

Babu Owino’s comments have added a new layer to this debate by suggesting he may hold information that has not yet been publicly disclosed.

He did not detail what he knows during the KTN interview, instead stating he needs time to talk, a phrase that many political commentators interpret as a buildup to further statements or possibly disclosures in the coming days.
