“You Will Not Succeed!” – Gachagua Defies Political Pressure to Hold Interview With Northern Kenya Media Stations

Former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused leaders from Northern Kenya of attempting to block his scheduled media interview, claiming the move is intended to deny residents critical information on the region’s development challenges.

In a statement on social media, Gachagua said there were “serious efforts” to intimidate journalists and radio stations, preventing them from airing his interview set for Thursday evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. 

He described the intimidation as an attempt to hide the truth about poverty and underdevelopment in Northern Kenya.

Gachagua vowed that the alleged threats would not succeed, asserting that journalists committed to public service had ignored the pressure. 

“If journalists can be intimidated to deny their listeners an opportunity to face the truth about their lack of development and poverty, who will help the people of Northern Kenya?” he said.

The DCP leader accused unnamed politicians of mismanaging public resources and suppressing debate on governance. 

He argued that attempts to silence him were temporary, and that eventually the truth about the region’s challenges would emerge.

Gachagua also praised journalists who stood firm despite the reported threats, describing their courage as essential for ensuring that residents remain informed. 

He framed the interview as part of a broader effort to hold leaders accountable and “liberate” Northern Kenya from poor governance.

The allegations highlight growing tensions over media freedom and political competition in the region, where radio remains the primary source of information for many residents. 

At the time of publication, Northern Kenya leaders had not publicly responded to Gachagua’s claims, and the affected radio stations had not released formal statements regarding the alleged intimidation.
