Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary David Chirchir on Tuesday held a high-level meeting with Nyandarua County leaders, led by his Cabinet colleague, Rebecca Miano, to discuss the state of the county’s road network and identify priority areas for improvement.

Speaking after the engagement, CS Chirchir said the discussions were part of the government’s nationwide commitment to consult local leadership on issues that affect both regional and national development.

“We reviewed the current state of road infrastructure within Nyandarua County, including roads, bridges, and the broader transportation network,” he said.

“We identified priority areas requiring improvement and upgrading to enhance connectivity, safety, and overall transport efficiency.”

The meeting brought together senior officials, including Transport PS Eng. Mbugua and Kenya Rural Roads Authority Acting Director-General Eng. Magondu, who joined in mapping out strategies to strengthen the county’s transport system.

CS Chirchir emphasized that these engagements aim to promote balanced and sustainable economic growth across all regions, ensuring that infrastructural development supports local and national economic objectives.

Nyandarua County officials highlighted areas where urgent maintenance and upgrades are needed, including key roads linking agricultural zones to markets, which are critical for boosting trade and reducing travel time.

The discussions also covered long-term plans for bridge rehabilitation, road safety measures, and modernization of the county’s transport network to support mobility and commerce.

CS Chirchir pledged continued collaboration between the national and county governments to ensure timely implementation of the proposed projects, underlining that infrastructure development is central to achieving Kenya’s broader economic growth goals.
