Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has alleged that the Kenyatta family deliberately undermined former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the 2022 general elections as part of a long-term succession plan.
On social media, Ngunyi outlined what he described as a calculated political strategy by the family. According to him, had the Kenyattas supported Raila in 2022, Raila could have served until 2032.
The plan, Ngunyi claims, was then to allow President William Ruto to lead for a decade, after which Muhoho Kenyatta, Deputy President Uhuru Kenyatta’s younger brother, could potentially pursue the presidency.
Ngunyi’s statement read in part: “If the Kenyattas made Raila President in 2022, Raila would exit in 2032. Then Ruto would take over until 2042. By this time, Muhoho will be 82 years. The PLAN: Betray Raila, tolerate Ruto for 10 years, then have a shot at the presidency using Muhoho Kenyatta.”
The post has reignited discussions on social media about the influence of political families in Kenya and their role in shaping electoral outcomes
