The Kenyan education community is mourning the death of Mwalimu Patrick Mandila, a distinguished Kiswahili teacher and national instructor, who passed away after years of shaping the minds of students across several schools.
Mandila, widely respected for his leadership in Kiswahili Paper 2, had a career spanning numerous institutions, including Kapsabet Boys High School, where he served until his passing.
Mwalimu Braxtone, a close colleague, posted on social media: “Patrick Mandila truly transformed students, especially in sports and Kiswahili. From Tulwo Girls, Kosirai, Cheptil, and Kapsabet Boys, among other schools, he left a mark.”
Mandila’s dedication to Kiswahili education was nationally recognised, not only for his instructional role but also as a mentor to other teachers.
His leadership as a Kiswahili Paper 2 team leader helped shape examination standards and fostered a generation of students proficient in the language.
Beyond academics, he encouraged students’ involvement in extracurricular activities, particularly sports, leaving a holistic imprint on those he taught.
Funeral arrangements have been announced, with Mandila set to be laid to rest on Thursday, 5 February 2026, at his family home in Kakamega.
The bereaved family and colleagues have appealed to the public, alumni, and parents of students from schools where he taught to support the family in giving him a dignified send-off.
