Suba North MP Millie Mabona Odhiambo has raised concerns over the influence of money in Kenya’s upcoming 2027 elections.

In a statement shared on social media, the legislator warned that electoral outcomes in many areas may be heavily shaped by financial power.

“The 2027 elections in most areas will be about MONEY. A lot of money will be used,” Odhiambo said, highlighting what she sees as a growing trend of resource-driven politics.

She cautioned that voters and political stakeholders should remain vigilant to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Mabona Odhiambo’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about campaign financing and political ethics in Kenya.

Analysts note that the cost of running for office has steadily increased, often favoring candidates with access to substantial personal or external funds.

Critics argue this dynamic risks marginalizing grassroots candidates and undermining democratic fairness.

The MP’s comments add to the broader discourse on electoral reforms, with civil society groups calling for stronger regulations on campaign spending and transparency in political financing.

As Kenya approaches the 2027 polls, the role of money in shaping political outcomes is emerging as a central concern for voters, candidates, and election observers alike.

Reactions:

Oketch: And they will vote for bad leaders because of money.

Ndar: Kisumu County Gubernatorial seat is one such position that will be decided by Money.

Mugambi: But at the end of the day we won't choose money but leaders with agenda.

James Muema: We will eat that money and still chose whoever we want.

Betty Seleh: Too much monetization and commercialization of Kenyan political campaigns and elections is one key factor that hinders many women from active participation in politics and political leadership. The reason Kenya is still far from the not more than 2/3s gender rule. Happy New year mheshimiwa Millie Mabona.

Osewe: Also remember to bring c.s energy and petroleum Wandai to complete the REREC project of rural electrification.
