Ekuru Aukot, leader of the Thirdway Alliance, has officially announced his candidacy for the 2027 presidential elections, signaling his return to Kenya’s political spotlight a decade after his first bid in 2017.

Speaking on Thursday during a Citizen TV interview, Aukot confirmed his intentions, saying, “Yes, I will still be running for president.”

He emphasized that his campaign will focus on innovative policies and issue-based leadership, rather than ethnic or regional allegiances.

Aukot highlighted the role of his Thirdway Alliance party, which he describes as “small but with big ideas.”

He cited initiatives such as the popular ‘punguza mizigo’ proposals, which aim to ease the financial burden on ordinary Kenyans, as examples of the party’s practical approach to governance.

“It is evident from how Kenyans have reacted to our ideas… They are asking us to return it,” he noted.

The veteran politician also criticized the persistence of tribal politics in Kenya, calling out leaders who, despite their education and expertise, still prioritize ethnic loyalty over national interest.

“One thing that disturbs me is that we still have individuals like Senator Eddie who are intellectual and well educated but still crawl back to their tribal cocoons,” Aukot remarked.

As the 2027 election season begins to take shape, Aukot’s announcement positions him as a contender emphasizing policy, innovation, and national unity—core messages his party hopes will resonate with a broad section of the electorate.
