Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has opened up about a harrowing experience he went through in 2020, recalling an attack by a group of assailants in Kakamega town.
Speaking on social media, Salasya said the attack happened at the Cereals Maraba area, near the Nyayo stage, where he was “beaten like a Dubai drum” by the unidentified goons.
The MP described the incident as a painful but formative experience, noting that he has endured much in life.

“I have been through a lot in my life, and when I remember this day in 2020, nilipigwa kama ngoma ya Dubai na goons wa Cleo. Alafu wakaniekea niliiba simu town,” he wrote, reflecting on the trauma of the event.

Salasya added that the main assailant later died, expressing mixed emotions about the episode.
Despite the ordeal, Salasya remains focused on his work, urging stakeholders in the sugar industry to prioritize productivity.
“Wacheni Mumias Sugar ifanye kazi, I really fought a lot,” he said, underlining his commitment to the sector and the welfare of his constituents.
The MP’s candid recounting has sparked reactions online, with many Kenyans expressing sympathy for his ordeal while applauding his resilience and dedication to public service.
