Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has recounted a dramatic confrontation with Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai at a Kilimani restaurant, describing it as both a violent attack and a direct threat to his life.

In a statement posted on X, Owino said the incident occurred yesterday afternoon along Lenana Road.

According to Owino, he had gone for a private meeting with a senior clergyman after releasing his security detail for the Christmas holidays.

He said he arrived at the restaurant at around 3:40 p.m. and spent roughly twenty minutes in discussion before preparing to leave.

Owino claimed that as he was departing, he noticed acquaintances seated at a nearby table, including MCA Robert Alai.

Out of courtesy, he approached to greet them, but said Alai immediately accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against his wife.

Owino denied the allegations, insisting he does not know her and avoids involving politicians’ family members in political disputes.

The MP alleged that Alai then became aggressive, pushing him and pressing a pistol to his chest while striking him on the jaw, all in full view of restaurant patrons.

Owino said he urged calm, trying to de-escalate the situation, and another person briefly intervened to separate them.

He further alleged that Alai later poured a glass of water on him, drawing the attention of other diners.

To prevent further escalation, Owino left the restaurant and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station.

Owino described the incident as politically motivated and part of a pattern of harassment dating back to the burial of ODM leader Raila Odinga in Siaya, when he faced similar threats.

He called on authorities to investigate and take appropriate legal action, stressing that calmness should not be mistaken for fear, and asserting his commitment to defending his life, dignity, and the rule of law.
