Parents with children in Grade 6, Grade 9 and Form Four have been urged to actively confirm their learners’ registration status ahead of national examinations, as the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) moves to tighten accountability in the assessment process.
Speaking on Friday during the release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at AIC Chebisas High School in Uasin Gishu County, KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njengere said parental involvement was critical in ensuring no learner is left out of the examination system.
The move targets candidates preparing for the Grade 6 and Grade 9 national assessments under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), as well as Form Four candidates sitting KCSE.
“Parents should take personal interest in confirming registration details for their children. We will provide an SMS prompt in April to enable parents to check and verify the registration status,” Njengere said.

He warned that cases of learners missing examinations due to registration errors or omissions remain a concern, despite clear timelines issued to schools.
KNEC, he added, is shifting towards shared responsibility, where parents, schools and education authorities all play a role in safeguarding learners’ academic progression.
The announcement comes at a time when the education sector is managing multiple transition points, with the CBC running alongside the 8-4-4 system.
Education stakeholders have previously raised concerns about communication gaps between schools and parents during registration exercises.
KNEC said further details on the SMS verification process will be communicated through schools and official channels, urging parents to respond promptly once the system goes live.
