Omondj Jaganyi, a long-time member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has resigned from the party, sending copies of his resignation to both the party and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).

His announcement comes just over two months after the death of ODM founder Raila Odinga.

Jaganyi made the resignation public through X, stating: “I have with immediate effect resigned from and terminated my membership with the The ODM party. A copy of this letter has been sent to the ODM party email and forwarded to the @ORPPKenya for his further action.”

In a formal letter addressed to ODM headquarters at Chungwa House in Lavington, Jaganyi, whose full name is Bonev N. Omondi, wrote: “By this letter, I have with immediate effect resigned from and terminated my membership with the Party. Best wishes going forward.”

The ODM party has been facing internal tensions in the last two months following the death of it's long time leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

Some members advocating for support of President William Ruto in the 2027 elections, while others call for a reevaluation of the party’s role in the current broad-based government.

Jaganyi’s resignation highlights the ongoing discussions about the party’s direction in the post-Raila period.
