Rising tensions within ODM took center stage on Wednesday as Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei warned Nairobi Senator and party secretary general Edwin Sifuna of a “thunderous fall” in his political career.

The remarks came shortly after Sifuna received a warm hug from Ida Odinga during a memorial event for Raila Odinga’s posthumous birthday in Karen.

While Ida Odinga personally embraced Sifuna, she reportedly limited greetings to a polite acknowledgment for other leaders present.

Cherargei, however, interpreted the gesture as a moment that has overexposed Sifuna, cautioning that the media and a divided opposition have amplified his profile prematurely.

“Sifuna is being fattened for a big slaughter politically in fulness of time. He is a newbie in politics. He will never know what happened when he is politically minced meat,” Cherargei said.

The warning comes amid growing internal disputes in ODM, where some members have openly criticized Sifuna and even called for his removal from the party, citing his public criticism of the Broad-Based Government.

Observers note that while Sifuna’s ties to the Odinga family, particularly Ida Odinga, may strengthen his standing, they also increase scrutiny and risk within a party navigating internal rivalries.

Cherargei’s comments highlight the precarious position of emerging leaders in Kenyan politics, where rapid prominence can lead to equally rapid setbacks.
