New details published by the Sunday Standard have raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of former Cabinet minister Cyrus Jirongo, after claims emerged that he may have been trailed moments before the fatal incident.

According to the report, CCTV footage from a petrol station shows a white vehicle driving in immediately behind Jirongo’s car at dawn on Saturday, December 13.

The vehicle reportedly did not seek fuel and instead stopped at pump number two, despite appearing to have no business at the station.

The car is said to have carried three men. One allegedly stepped out and briefly walked toward where Jirongo’s vehicle had moved before returning to the white car.

A second man then exited and walked to the co-driver’s side, while a third remained inside, watching the scene.

It was during this sequence of events that the accident captured on CCTV occurred, leading to Jirongo’s death.

The timing and movements captured on the footage have prompted speculation over whether the former minister was being followed.

While authorities have not publicly commented on the claims, the reported footage has intensified calls for a thorough review of the events leading up to Jirongo’s death.

Investigators are expected to rely on forensic evidence and CCTV analysis to establish whether the incident was purely accidental or involved external interference.
