ODM Youth Leader Launches Push to Strengthen Party Influence Among Millennials

Young members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are mobilising to expand their influence within the party and Kenyan politics at large. Kasmuel McCoure, a prominent figure in the ODM youth wing, announced an initiative aimed at uniting young Democrats to create a structured platform for collective action and political engagement.

In a statement shared on social media, McCoure stressed that youth involvement in politics is crucial for safeguarding the legacy of ODM leader Raila Odinga and advancing democratic principles in Kenya.

He called on millennials to move beyond being observers and actively shape the party’s direction through organised networks and disciplined participation.

McCoure highlighted the consistent support of senior leaders such as Governor Gladys Wanga, Hon. George Aladwa, and Hon. Odalo, noting that loyalty to principle and collaboration across generations are key to gaining and maintaining political influence.

“Our generation has already proven its ability to revive national conscience, defend constitutional rights, and challenge impunity,” he said, referencing the youth-led campaigns that influenced political debates in the past year.

The initiative comes as ODM, one of Kenya’s oldest opposition parties, prepares for upcoming electoral contests and internal party reorganisations.

Historically, the party has relied on active youth engagement to maintain grassroots support, particularly in urban areas and counties where younger voters form a significant portion of the electorate. McCoure’s call aligns with this tradition, urging young members to consolidate power and avoid fragmentation.

He also emphasised that millennials within the party should establish networks capable of withstanding political pressures, while remaining open to collaboration with older generations willing to support youth-led efforts.

McCoure described the youth as the “engine and conscience” of ODM, responsible for defending the party’s democratic values and ensuring continuity of its political vision.

The mobilisation effort reflects a broader trend in Kenyan politics, where youth activism is increasingly recognised as a decisive factor in shaping party policies, electoral outcomes, and leadership transitions.

By organising young Democrats into a disciplined front, McCoure aims to secure a meaningful role for millennials in both internal party decision-making and national governance
