The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has shocked motorists along the Kisumu–Kisii Highway by arresting three traffic officers over alleged bribery.

The officers—Inspector Rachel Wangetha, Corporal Wilberforce Koffi, and Corporal Shadrack Nerima—were caught in a targeted EACC operation after numerous complaints of extortion surfaced.

Reports indicate they demanded money from drivers without performing any legitimate traffic checks.

During the raid, EACC recovered cash in various denominations believed to be bribe money.

The suspects were first processed at the EACC Central Nyanza Regional Office in Kisumu before being transferred to Kisumu Railways and Ports Police Station, where they are being held pending further investigations.

This operation forms part of the Commission’s wider crackdown on highway corruption, which spikes during the festive season when road traffic increases.

EACC says it is intensifying intelligence gathering and surveillance on public service sectors prone to corrupt practices.

Highway users have long complained about traffic officers soliciting bribes without enforcing regulations, creating a climate of fear and mistrust.

The latest arrests are a clear signal that EACC is serious about tackling corruption at the frontline of public service.
