She was shivering on the cold pavement outside City Hall, exhausted, hungry, and invisible to the world. A homeless woman, beaten down by life on the streets, feared another cruel encounter.
That’s when Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi County CEC for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, stepped in. He spotted her lying alone in the heart of the Central Business District and didn’t look away.
“She thought I had come to chase her away, like so many others before,” Mosiria said on X. “Her fear was visible, but I knew I had to reach her.”
With calm, gentle words, he asked her one simple question: “What can I do today to help you?”
Her answer was small but powerful. She wanted clean clothes and a meal—specifically fish from Ajode Hotel. Mosiria didn’t hesitate.
He personally took her to a salon, where she was cleaned, groomed, and given fresh clothes.
She stared at her reflection and broke down in tears.

“It wasn’t tears of weakness,” Mosiria said. “She had not felt cared for like this in years.”
But the rescue didn’t stop at clothes and a meal. Mosiria arranged for her to sleep safely and facilitated her admission into a rehabilitation centre.
She is now receiving professional care, far from the dangers of the streets.
The CEC also made a public appeal for help in tracing her family, hoping to reunite her with loved ones.
Homelessness remains a harsh reality in Nairobi.
Thousands in the CBD face hunger, violence, and neglect every day.
Mosiria’s bold action is a reminder of what compassion and courage can achieve—one life transformed at a time.
