Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has shared a touching personal memory of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo, highlighting the deep bond that went beyond politics.
In a social media post, Governor Nassir said he attended Jirongo’s burial in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, representing Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
While paying his respects, Nassir reflected on a childhood connection that left a lasting impression.
“The late Jirongo held a special place in my heart. He was a long-time friend of my late father and a man he trusted deeply,” Nassir wrote.
He recalled that whenever his father was unavailable, Jirongo would personally drop him to school, a gesture that spoke volumes about his generosity and reliability.
“That quiet, practical kindness spoke volumes about the man he was: dependable, generous, and deeply invested in people beyond politics,” the governor added.
Nassir emphasized that Jirongo’s influence extended far beyond his political career.
“We laid to rest a leader whose journey left an indelible mark on our national life, and a family man whose warmth will be remembered by many,” he said.
Governor Nassir concluded his tribute by wishing the late MP eternal peace and comfort for his family.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind,” he posted.
Cyrus Jirongo, a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, was remembered not only for his leadership but also for the personal care and attention he showed to those around him.
