Saboti MP Flags Narrow By-Election Margins By Broad Based candidates, Questions Influence of Established Leaders

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has criticised recent by-election outcomes, highlighting the slim margins by which the ruling party and its allies secured victories.

Speaking after the Thursday contests, Amisi suggested that the results expose a weakening hold for some senior politicians and raise questions about the government’s strength in key constituencies.

In Malava Constituency, UDA candidate David Ndakwa narrowly defeated DAP-K’s Seth Panyako by just 1,354 votes, according to official results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The close contest has drawn attention to the vulnerability of party strongholds that were previously considered secure.

Amisi also took aim at veteran political figures, including Moses Wetang’ula and former Deputy President Musalia Mudavadi.

He questioned how leaders long regarded as dominant could struggle in their traditional areas, noting that even heavily funded campaigns produced only marginal wins.

“Numbers do not lie,” Amisi wrote on social media, referencing narrow margins in Malava and other constituencies.

The MP’s comments underscore a broader trend observed during the by-elections, where victories were often won with minimal lead despite significant investment in campaigns.

By-elections in Kenya are often used as a gauge of public mood between general elections, providing insight into shifting political dynamics.

Narrow victories in constituencies like Malava, which is traditionally a UDA stronghold, highlight how voters are reassessing party loyalty and candidate performance at the local level.

The IEBC has officially confirmed all winners from Thursday’s contests and issued certificates of election. No formal petitions challenging the results have been reported at this stage.
