Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has defended Winnie Odinga following her remarks at the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Mombasa on Friday.
Winnie Odinga had accused certain party leaders of engaging in undisclosed deals, sparking criticism from figures including Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai.
In a statement shared on social media, Amisi praised Winnie Odinga for her loyalty to her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, highlighting her active role in safeguarding his legacy.
“I have seen her endure teargas and shield Baba from political mandarins,” Amisi wrote, describing her as a key figure in upholding the ideals that shaped ODM.
Amisi also criticised party members he referred to as “Ruto-sponsored ODM nincompoops,” arguing that many current leaders had lost sight of the party’s founding principles.
He accused them of undermining Raila Odinga’s vision for Kenya, suggesting that their actions risked diverting ODM from its core mission of promoting democratic governance and social justice.
“Most current ODM leaders really never believed in Baba’s ideals. It is unraveling now and so fast,” Amisi added.
He further indicated that a reckoning within the party was imminent, saying, “A time is coming when we will separate boys from men,” and called for a broader political renewal in the country.
Winnie Odinga’s comments come amid ongoing tensions within ODM, a party established in 2003 and historically central to Kenya’s opposition politics.
Her critique of certain leaders reflects concerns among some members that internal disagreements and secret negotiations could weaken the party ahead of upcoming elections.
The MP’s defence underscores a wider debate on loyalty, leadership, and political direction within ODM.
