Babu Owino Backs Cop Shakur’s Shift Into Business With Launch of Kikuyu Laundry

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has urged young Kenyans to invest in small enterprises as he presided over the launch of a new laundry business opened by political activist Cop Shakur in Kikuyu Town.

The event, announced by the legislator on X, highlighted the growing role of youth-led ventures in local economic development.

The MP said Cop Shakur’s decision to establish the business reflects the increasing number of young public figures turning to entrepreneurship amid a competitive job market.

Owino noted that the laundry shop is expected to expand service options in Kikuyu Town, where demand for fast, reliable household services has risen with steady population growth.

In his social media statement, Owino praised the activist for what he described as a bold step into enterprise. He emphasized that starting a business requires planning and resilience, saying the move aligns with national efforts to encourage youth participation in the economy.

The legislator added that such ventures help stimulate local commerce and contribute to Kenya’s broader push to strengthen small and medium-sized businesses.

Cop Shakur, known for his activism and online engagement, has increasingly gained public attention in national political conversations.

While he has not issued further details about his business plans, his move into the private sector mirrors a wider trend in which politically active youth diversify their work beyond advocacy.

Kenya has seen similar shifts among young leaders across political parties, especially as economic pressures push many to explore opportunities outside formal employment.

Kikuyu Town, located in Kiambu County, has in recent years become a hub for emerging enterprises, driven by its proximity to Nairobi and expanding residential estates.

Local traders say new businesses often stimulate foot traffic and offer employment to residents, contributing to the town’s evolving commercial landscape.

During the launch, Owino expressed confidence that the new facility would offer quality, convenient services to the community.

He linked the initiative to ongoing national discussions about youth empowerment, stressing that entrepreneurship remains a viable pathway for financial independence.

His remarks align with broader political messaging encouraging the growth of small enterprises as part of Kenya’s economic agenda.
