Little Known Details of Raila Odinga’s Loyal Bodyguard, Francis

As Kenyans continue to reflect on the life and legacy of the late Raila Odinga, new details are emerging about the people who protected and stood by him through decades of political storms. ODM youth leader and activist Kasmuel McOure has shed light on one such figure — a little-known but deeply loyal bodyguard named Francis.

Appearing on a podcast on Saturday, McOurre described Francis as the calm and steady presence behind the scenes, a man whose devotion to Raila went beyond duty.

“Francis is such a nice guy; he is a quiet man, and I think Raila’s death has really affected him because he is a true gentleman,” McOure shared.

Francis was part of a close-knit trio that included George and Ogeta — men who, according to McOurre, formed a near-impenetrable ring of protection around the ODM leader.

“With these three, you couldn’t joke with Raila; you could never. They could sniff,” he said, alluding to their unmatched alertness and loyalty.

McOurre also recalled his first personal encounter with Francis earlier this year during the Madaraka Day celebrations at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

“The first time I met Francis directly was when he was on duty that day. Raila had wanted me to accompany him to the stadium,” he revealed.

Following Raila’s passing, many of those who worked closely with him are said to be struggling with the loss.

For Francis, McOurre noted, it has been particularly painful — a reflection of the quiet bond and unwavering trust that existed between him and the man he protected.
