Caleb Amisi: Those Shouting Loudest at Raila’s Funeral Once Betrayed Him

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has ignited political debate after accusing several leaders who spoke at the late Raila Odinga’s funeral of hypocrisy and betrayal.

In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Amisi revisited the turbulent 2017 presidential election period, recalling how he and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino stood by Raila when many of his allies allegedly abandoned him.

“In August 2017, Hon. Babu Owino and I escorted Baba like bodyguards to the Supreme Court to seek justice for his stolen victory when he was left to fight for himself,” Amisi wrote.

He went on to criticize those who, despite having turned their backs on Raila during critical political struggles, took center stage at his funeral in Bondo over the weekend, delivering passionate tributes and leading public displays of grief.

“Those who were speaking and shouting at his funeral in Bondo were his tormentors. Hypocrites have successfully buried you, Jakom!” Amisi declared, using the affectionate title long associated with the late ODM leader.

The outspoken MP’s comments have stirred mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans applauding his honesty while others accused him of politicizing a solemn occasion.

Amisi, a staunch ODM loyalist, reaffirmed his commitment to continue Raila’s reform agenda, vowing that the struggle for justice and good governance will not end with the opposition leader’s death.

“Baba, while alive, we never let you walk alone in the corridors of justice; we shall not let you down even in death. The struggle for a better Kenya continues. Kenya needs a renaissance,” he wrote.

Raila Odinga was laid to rest at his Bondo home in Siaya County on Sunday following his death on Wednesday.
