The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has appealed for public and family cooperation as it intensifies investigations into the disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
In a statement issued on Monday, the agency confirmed that a missing person report had been filed at Karen Police Station, triggering a multi-agency probe into the circumstances surrounding Tuju’s sudden disappearance.
Detectives say early efforts have already uncovered key developments, but access to critical areas remains a challenge.
According to investigators, Tuju was reported missing by his family on Sunday, March 22, 2026. His vehicle was later discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane in the Karen area of Nairobi, with its hazard lights still on.
A security guard from a nearby institution alerted authorities, prompting a swift police response.
Crime scene experts processed the area before the vehicle was towed to Karen Police Station for forensic examination. Authorities believe the car could provide crucial leads as they work to reconstruct Tuju’s last known movements.
However, the investigation has encountered a significant setback after detectives were denied access to Tuju’s residence on Mwitu Drive.
The DCI emphasized that unrestricted access to relevant locations is essential for a thorough and timely investigation, urging all involved parties to cooperate fully.
Efforts to contact Tuju have so far been unsuccessful, with his mobile phone reportedly switched off.
A specialized team has since been deployed to lead the probe, working alongside other government agencies to establish his whereabouts and determine whether foul play may be involved.
The agency has also called on members of the public to assist with information. Anyone who may have seen Tuju, his vehicle, or any suspicious activity in the Miotoni Lane area or the wider Karen vicinity before, on, or after March 21 is urged to come forward.
Information can be shared confidentially through the DCI’s toll-free hotline, WhatsApp platform, or at the nearest police station.
The case has drawn national attention, with growing concern over the circumstances of Tuju’s disappearance.
Investigations remain ongoing, with authorities promising updates as new developments emerge.
