A suspected drug trafficker was arrested in a major anti-narcotics operation along the Mai Mahiu–Nairobi Road, with authorities recovering a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis sativa.
The arrest was carried out by a joint team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) Transnational Organized Crime Unit and Anti-Narcotics Unit, in collaboration with officers from Mutarakwa Police Post.
Acting on credible intelligence, the officers intercepted a dark blue Toyota Crown, registration number KCZ 797W, at Mutarakwa Trading Centre in Limuru Sub-County.
The driver, identified as Brian Thomas Wachika, was apprehended at the scene.
A search of the vehicle uncovered four-and-a-half sacks containing green plant material believed to be cannabis sativa. The estimated street value of the seized drugs has not yet been disclosed.
A second occupant in the vehicle fled the scene, and police are currently pursuing leads to apprehend the individual.
Following the arrest, Wachika and the recovered exhibits were transported to DCI Headquarters for further processing, documentation, and eventual arraignment in court.
In a statement, the DCI emphasized its ongoing commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks and drug trafficking syndicates, underscoring the agency’s broader efforts to secure communities across Kenya.
The operation highlights intensified law enforcement efforts in Kiambu County and other regions to combat the proliferation of illicit drugs.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate by providing information on suspected drug activities, reinforcing Kenya’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics trafficking.
This latest seizure forms part of the DCI’s continuous crackdown on illicit substances, which officials say is crucial in reducing the social and economic harms associated with drug abuse and organized crime.
