The Thika Bustani Affordable Housing Project is shaping up as a key government intervention aimed at easing housing pressure in rapidly urbanising parts of Kiambu County.
According to details shared by the Principal Secretary for Interior and National Coordination, the development will deliver 931 housing units spread across six modern high-rise blocks.
These include Blocks A1 and A2, each standing at 15 floors, Blocks B1, B2 and B3 with 14 floors each, and Block C, also rising to 15 floors.
The housing units range from bedsitters to one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. They are categorised into affordable, market-rate and social housing, a structure intended to cater for households with varying income levels while promoting mixed-use living.
In addition to residential units, Thika Bustani has been designed as a self-supporting urban community. Eight retail shops are integrated within the residential blocks, while a separate commercial building will accommodate 16 more shops.
Government officials say this commercial element will improve access to essential services and support small businesses in the area.
The State Department for Interior and National Administration has provided coordination and security oversight during implementation.
Authorities say this support has ensured smooth construction progress and a stable environment for contractors.
Once completed, Thika Bustani is expected to contribute to organised urban growth while expanding housing options for thousands of Kenyans.
