"Sifuna Will Not Be On The Ballot" Cherargei Predicts Linda Mwananchi Collapse as Babu Owino Signals Shift in Focus

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has weighed in on the growing political debate surrounding the Linda Mwananchi movement, claiming the outfit could collapse if Embakasi East MP Babu Owino eventually walks away.

Cherargei made the remarks while responding to Babu’s recent press address, in which the legislator explained his decision to reduce his participation in some Linda Mwananchi rallies as he focuses more on his Nairobi gubernatorial ambitions.

“If Babu Owino leaves Linda Mwananchi movement, which he will leave soon, the movement will COLLAPSE,” Cherargei said.

The senator argued that Babu’s continued association with the movement was central to its political strength, suggesting his departure would create a major setback for the opposition alliance.

Babu, however, has maintained that his decision to attend fewer rallies does not amount to abandoning Linda Mwananchi or falling out with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

During his press address, Babu said his political ambitions were different from those of Sifuna. While he is seeking to concentrate on the Nairobi governor’s race, Sifuna has been positioning himself for the presidency.

Babu also said he would continue supporting Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi, although he would not attend every rally because of the demands of building his political network across Nairobi’s 85 wards.

Cherargei also questioned Sifuna’s prospects in the 2027 General Election, claiming that the Nairobi senator would not appear on the presidential ballot because he lacks a political party.

“I said that Sifuna will not be on the ballot because he is partyless,” Cherargei stated.

He further claimed that Sifuna could eventually abandon his presidential ambitions and take up a leadership role within the Luhya community, linking the claim to Ukombozi Party of Kenya, associated with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

Cherargei did not provide evidence for his prediction, and Sifuna has not, in the remarks cited, indicated that he plans to abandon his presidential ambitions.

The Nandi senator also weighed in on Siaya Governor James Orengo, claiming he would eventually return to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

“Orengo will run back to ODM party while atoning his grievous sins,” Cherargei said.

His remarks add to the political speculation surrounding opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, with questions over party affiliations, coalition structures and individual ambitions expected to remain prominent as political parties prepare for the polls.
