Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has publicly denied allegations that he misappropriated funds meant for Azimio campaign agents during the 2022 elections, placing responsibility instead on former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his close associates.
“Pesa za agents zikona Uhuru na Muhoho Kenyatta pamoja na mfanyakazi wao Patrick Mburu. My role was not to pay agents but to campaign for Raila and engage with the people,” he said, emphasizing that accusations against him were misplaced.
Junet also reflected on Raila Odinga’s defeat, linking it to the way the campaign was conducted.
“If Baba had won the election, I would be a big man in this country,” he said. He further noted that voter choices and a top-down approach by the former President affected the results.
“Baba lost the elections because people with surnames like yours didn’t vote for him, and also because Uhuru was campaigning for him from State House instead of engaging with people on the ground,” Junet claimed.
The MP dismissed suggestions that he mistreated voters or mismanaged resources, attributing the criticism to his proximity to Raila Odinga.
“Didn’t you see me abusing people? People are blaming me simply because I was the closest to Baba,” he added.
His comments suggest tensions within the Azimio camp remain unresolved, particularly regarding how funds were allocated and campaign responsibilities divided.
By pointing fingers at the Kenyatta family while defending his own conduct, Junet seeks to clear his name and reframe the narrative, portraying himself as a loyal campaigner unfairly targeted for circumstances beyond his control.
