Mudavadi Remembers Raila as a Friend Beyond Politics During Bondo Visit

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has remembered the late Raila Odinga as more than a political ally, describing him as a friend and national figure whose vision and values shaped Kenya’s democracy.

Speaking after visiting the Odinga family in Bondo, Mudavadi said he went to condole with Mama Ida Odinga days after the burial of the veteran opposition leader.

He called Bondo a historic cradle of our nation’s independence, noting that it represents Kenya’s story of resilience and leadership.

In a message shared on X, Mudavadi reflected on his personal relationship with the late Odinga, recalling their close interactions that often went beyond politics.

“I deeply miss our warm exchanges, ‘Mwana wa Hannah’ and ‘Woud Mary,’ moments that strengthened our friendship beyond politics, and reminded us of the bonds of family, faith, and our shared hopes for Kenya’s future,” he wrote.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said the country continues to feel the absence of Raila’s leadership but remains guided by his legacy.

He described Raila as a man of dignity, diligence, candour, and courage, whose influence will continue to inspire future generations seeking a united and just nation.

Raila, who served as Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013, was laid to rest at his rural home in Bondo last week.

His burial drew leaders from across the political divide and beyond Kenya’s borders, reflecting the impact he had on national and continental politics.
